Physician, writer, and community activist Clotilde P. Garcia was born on 11 January 1917, daughter of Mexican school teachers. Garcia grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas. She earned a B.A. (1938) and M.Ed. (1959) from the University of Texas at Austin, and an M.D. (1954) from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
